Binding Design Competition Winners

As we had a record number of entries this month, we couldn’t pick just one winner, so here are two.

This first LOVEly design (right) was done by Flora McDonnell who came to visit to the library with her teacher and classmates from Scoil San Treasa. This makes a very appropriate centrepiece on the table in the old reading room for the month of February

The second winning design (left) was illustrated by Yuki Ito. The fan designs along the border are very effective and it was very nice to meet you too!

Well done to both winners and thank you to all those who entered the competition.

Here is the winning entry from our December bookbinding design competition. The simple but effective patterns are very appealing and the compliment to this little country did not go amiss… Thank you Carolin Mueller!

Another design which deserves a
special mention is this one here on the right. The artist certainly has a sense of humour; the title and other text received quite a few chuckles around the library…

This stunning design, depicting the front entrance of the library, was the clear winner for November. The detail is incredible, including the flower and mermaid on the spine.

Well done to Jamie Ostrow from the USA, your prize is on the way.

Thank you for visiting our library and for leaving us this little gem.

This beautifully intricate cover was illustrated by Stefan Horlitz from Germany, for his daughter. Although Stefan left the design behind, his daughter had the chance to see what she inspired when The Little Book of Princess Selma was chosen as our October winner and posted here and on Facebook.

Two mystery October entries deserve special mention:

This stunning tree design (top right) wowed us with its originality and detail.

And there is something very endearing about the fox in this illustration of Aesop’s Fables (bottom right).

Well done to both of you, whoever you are…

Here is September’s winning design from Olga, who visited us from Russia. Stunning design on blue seen here on the right.

We have to mention though, we were torn in our decision with the detail on Cecelia’s spine (below)…Sorry Cecelia, you were a very close runner up!

As it was our first time for announcing the bindings designer of the month and because we had a little bit of July added to August, we had two winners.

The first was by Keira, who is 8 years old and visited us from Co. Donegal. She definitely used some of our bindings from the exhibition as inspiration in the lovely central pattern, with striking gold on red.  Well done, Keira and thank you for visiting and taking part.

Our second winner was Laura.  A great Celtic influence here and striking in it’s ‘less is more’ design!

Prizes were sent to both winners, an exhibition catalogue for Laura and sketchbooks and gold pen for Keira.

Here are our visitor’s creations below:
