As an undergraduate at Trinity College Dublin, Bram Stoker was a fan of the challenging and controversial poetry of Walt Whitman.
Bram’s interest in the truly awful poetry of Downes is perplexing. Might it have enjoyed a certain, ironic fame among devotees of bad writing in mid-nineteenth century Dublin?
