Minimax fire extinguisher
Marsh’s Library bought its first fire extinguishers in 1920, during the War of Independence.
The library acquired two Minimax extinguishers for the princely sum of £7 16s.
The fire extinguishers were a well-timed purchase. Two years later, with the onset of the Civil War, Dublin’s city centre was once more aflame. In June 1922, the Public Record Office caught fire, with the loss of hundreds of years of Irish history.
