Melmoth the Wanderer

A celebration of Charles Robert Maturin’s infamous Gothic novel of 1820.

On 29 October 2021, Marsh’s Library will host an event to celebrate the 201st anniversary of the publication of Melmoth the Wanderer, a favourite novel of Oscar Wilde, Charles Baudelaire and Honoré de Balzac.

There will be an academic symposium looking at Maturin’s most famous book, as well as his lesser known works. We will launch an online exhibition about Maturin’s haunting of Marsh’s Library for source materials, and there will be readings from the great novel.

For further details about how to get involved, please contact Dr Christina Morin of the University of Limerick:

The symposium and associated events are funded by the Irish Research Council. They were to have taken place last year to mark the 200th anniversary, but this year we can finally celebrate Melmoth@201!
