This exhibition showcases images from Irish and world maps and atlases published in the three centuries after the year 1536, drawn from the collections of Marsh’s Library and the Armagh Robinson Library.

We begin with some Irish towns and localities, before turning to maps of the island of Ireland. We then examine the cartography of our nearest neighbour as well as Europe and the wider world. We finish with maps (sometimes fanciful!) of the ancient world.

Click the images below to view the maps within each of the six themes.

Also see the items arranged as a Timeline or by host institution: Marsh’s Library, Dublin or the Armagh Robinson Library.
